We're Baaack ...

After a nearly 20 year hiatus A Barking Dog is back. Over that time my perspective has developed, IOW I’ve gotten older. In pro audio terms I’m an old man now. I’ve slightly mellowed compared to my touring days though my bovine fecal excrement meter is still as sensitive as ever. Perhaps more sensitive.

Here’s a Reader’s Digest version of how I got to where I am now. After 26 years of touring, local and regional gigs, managing PA companies and the like I decided it was time to get off the road. I also was the founder of the Live-Audio Board, at the time the largest pro audio community on the nasent internet. That grew when Ken Berger, Karen Pockey, Deb Ferguson, Rob Carey and myself kicked off Prosound Web. PSW still exists today after a few changes in ownership. Post my PSW stint A Barking Dog was born. It’s not a good fit for pro audio advertising supported media.

I moved to Vegas in search of a house gig where I wouldn’t have to scrap by either working behind a desk at a PA company, pimp manufacturer wares or do grueling local gigs week after week. I landed at a big show on the Strip. Combined with a draconian social media policy (that they still have nearly 20 years and 2 shows later) and a breach of a dormant Drupal install on the original ADB site lead to the demise of the original version. It’s still there on the Wayback Machine.

This version of ABD will be for long form. Things that are too long and more in-depth than what’s appropriate at LinkedIn. It won’t be as profane but still may not be suitable for some kids, adults that have fragile egos or take themselves too seriously. A lot has happened in the pro audio space in the last 17 years or so. I look forward to piping up about what’s going on today (and perhaps how we got here) in terms of technology, applications and lifestyle.
